The finished edge looks more granite like squarer and i have gotten many more compliments on the ikea counters. Things to remember when using ikea laminate and wood countertops. Both heat and pressure are applied to harden the surface and create a durable worktop. Not sure what happened but i am assuming.

Undermount sinks cannot be used with any of ikea s laminate or butcher block tops. Miters you see done in any commercial applications are typically made by fancy laser machines and are not reproducible in the field. The only negative i could say is there is a tiny chip on the counter surface of the ikea counter which i think the installer must have knicked. Reporting back on the worktops the oak is a bit lighter than the ikea ones although not oiled yet so expect them to darken but my builder was v impressed with the price of the worktop express ones he even asked for their details so that has to b a good sign.

Joints must be butt joints as opposed to mitered joints. Ikea liked the colors much better vs hd. Laminate worktops are affordable easy to maintain and there are lots of colours and expressions to choose from. They are made of laminate pressed onto particleboard.
